EARTHA KITT REMEMBERED 1927-2008
I know many of you may have been too young to remember the Batman and Robin tv show 30+ years ago, but as a child growing up in the 70's that was a kids saving grace for entertainment. When I first laid eyes on Eartha Kitt she was the tongue rolling vixen portraying Catwoman which became one of my favorite television shows along with Wonder Woman. But Eartha was a strikingly beautiful woman playing a role most African American women in those days would find difficult to play. Not even Julie Newmar (Catwoman previous) could purrrrrr like Kitt. Her name alone speaks volumes to her role. Unbeknownst to me at the time, Eartha has long been a star on tv and in music. Eartha Mae Kitt was an American actress, singer, and caberet star. She was perhaps best known for her 1953 Christmas song "Santa Baby". She took over the role of Catwoman for the 4th series of the 1960s Batman tv series, replacing Julie Newmar who was unavailable for the final series. Eartha you will be missed, thank you for blessing the world with your presence.R.I.P
